Pedophile who made children’s lives hell found dead just weeks after conviction

A convicted pedophile dies while awaiting sentencing in a British prison.

Andrew Hadwin died at HMP Durham on Thursday, Leading Britain’s Conversation reported.

His Majesty’s Prison Service announced the prisoner’s death in a statement, promising authorities would investigate his death.

“HMP Durham prisoner Andrew Hadwin died on February 2,” the Justice Department said in a statement. “As with all deaths in custody, the Ombudsman for Prisons and Probation will conduct an investigation.”

Last month, Hadwin and his partner were convicted of child neglect, rape and obstruction of justice, The Northern Echo reports.

Should pedophiles be punished more severely for their crimes?

Hadwin went so far as to forge letters from his victims in which they retracted their abuse testimony in front of adults they had notified of the situation.

A handwriting expert assessed the letters as forgeries.

The criminal case against Hadwin resulted in accusations that he tortured children, including starving them and feeding them soap.

The investigation of Hadwin’s crimes lasted four years, and one of the law enforcement officials called this case one of the most disturbing he had ever seen, Northern Echo reports.

“This was an extremely complex and harrowing investigation for all involved, something I have never experienced in my police career,” Detective Constable Kat Pudney said of the case, LBC reports.

On other occasions, Hadwin and his partner hung a child over the roadway of a bridge and placed the children in a locked cabinet, according to the Daily Mail.

The cause of Hadwin’s death is not clear.

“We are unable to provide further comment as this investigation is live and we do not wish to prejudice the investigation,” Prisons Ombudsman Kimberly Bingham told the BBC.

Sentencing has been scheduled for April 28.
