Patriots’ Bob Craft says Jeff Bezos ‘would be a great owner’ if he bought NFL Commanders

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that Jeff Bezos is “probably one of the most competent businessmen in the world” who would make a “great owner” if he bought the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

Kraft, one of the NFL’s most powerful owners, called Bezos a “great operator” when asked about reports that the Amazon founder is considering buying the Washington team from Daniel Snyder.

“For those of us who are privileged to own NFL franchises, I believe this, more than anything else, creates a community and we need good working people in their individual cities,” Craft told Fox Business Network’s Neil Cavuto .

“I think Jeff would be a great owner,” Kraft said.

Last month, The Post was the first to report on the growing chatter in business circles that Bezos hoped to clear the way for the Washington Commanders by selling the Washington Post.

News site Front Office Sports reported last month that Bank of America, which was hired by Snyder to find a buyer for the team, is “continuing to woo Bezos — even if there are signs that Snyder doesn’t want to sell” to the mogul. .

Snyder is reportedly unhappy with Bezos due to his newspaper’s critical coverage of his leadership of the Washington team.

The embittered owner suspects that Bezos ordered the Washington Post to fire up Snyder in order to eventually force him to sell the team to the Amazon founder.

A spokesman for Bezos denied that The Washington Post was for sale.

Kraft said he was not “involved” in any information about the future of the commanders.

Kraft, a Boston native who made his fortune in paper packaging, real estate and private equity, bought his beloved Patriots in 1994 for $172 million. At the time, it was the largest amount ever paid to an NFL team.

Since then, the value of sports franchises, especially NFL teams, has skyrocketed.

Last year, Forbes valued the Pats, who won six Super Bowl titles under Kraft, at $6.4 billion.

Asked by Cavuto on Fox Business Network if he plans to sell the Patriots, Kraft gave a strong response, insisting, “I’ll never sell them.”

“The New England Patriots are the most important thing in my life after my family,” Kraft said.

“This is not a business,” he said of the team. “It’s really part of my family, it’s part of the community.”

“If we can do it, it will make the whole region better and I love being in the dressing room, being close to the players.”

“I’m just pinching myself for the honor of owning a franchise in my hometown.”

Kraft added, “The good Lord was very kind in allowing this to happen.”

“We set it up to stay in the family for decades to come,” Kraft said.
