Parents outraged that Kentucky student who wrote ‘murder list’ is allowed to return to campus

Parents were furious at a recent Kentucky school board meeting after a student who allegedly wrote a “murder list” was allowed to return to school.

On Thursday, several angry parents opposed the decision to allow the 14-year-old to return to the campus of Conner High School in Hebron City, citing concerns for their children’s safety, FOX 19 reported.

“As the father of a child on the active kill list, my statements will reflect my opinion based on the information I received from Conner High School,” Father Rob Bidleman said at the meeting. “When the director called me, it was emotionally devastating. All I could think about was that my child was in danger even though they hadn’t done anything wrong.”

The student was accused of threatening other classmates last year when he was in high school. He was charged and initially kicked out of school, but this month he was allowed to start high school.

In November 2021, a school employee was notified of a notebook containing specific acts of violence in which individual students were identified, according to police, in November 2021.

The officer interrogated the student, who confessed to writing down what was found in the notebook. He claimed he was “simply writing down the thoughts that were in his head,” police said.

Among those threatened was reportedly the son of Conner High School Principal.

“The director’s own son was on the death threat list for this child,” mother Jenny Murray said at a board meeting on Thursday. “As dedicated and hardworking as he is, how is he not distracted by stress and anxiety, knowing that his son might be in danger?”

The student will be allowed to return to school grounds starting Wednesday.

“It doesn’t make sense and you don’t need to have a degree in psychology to understand it. Why would you return the child to an environment in which he could possibly act? Father Jim Kruspe said.

On Friday, principal Matthew Turner wrote to the school community that every child has a right to an education, citing the Kentucky state constitution.

“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority in district decision making,” he wrote, according to WLWT. “We also cooperate in decision making with an experienced legal advisor. With the help of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, our school counselors, and the County Safety Team, I can assure you that all necessary security measures have been put in place and are in place. … Conner Middle School remains a safe school.”
