Paraplegic teen bakes cake as last wish: ‘Her goal is to empower people’

A paraplegic teen hopes to empower others after deciding to bake a cake as her final wish.

Noor “Nuni” Alhaiyadir is currently at the INTEGRIS Health Health Children’s Hospital. Doctors said the 17-year-old had an unexplained and uncertain prognosis. At the age of 15, she became numb and eventually lost the ability to use her arms and legs. Doctors said she had been hospitalized several times over the past two years, but feared her current stay would be her last.

The hospital staff helped the teenager fulfill what could be her last wish. The hospital chef and canteen staff gathered the ingredients to make a coffee cake.

They then brought the individual ingredients to Alhayadir’s room and helped her make the cake. Once it was baked, they brought it back to her room for her to enjoy.

The hospital shared a video of the bittersweet gesture.

“Its goal is to empower people,” INTEGRIS specialist Erica Liddell said in a press release. “No matter what your diagnosis is or what your limitations are, Nani wants people to know that life is worth living and that you can do the hard things.”

Her condition has been proven to be difficult to diagnose, and while they believe the end is inevitable, they say the teen is still hopeful and doesn’t stop.
