Oncor says they are prepared for possible power outages

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Oncor said there wasn’t. massive power outages for now, but they’re ready if that happens.

An Oncor spokesman said the storm went about as they expected, with several outages early in the day and every hour.

But they said they started preparations in advance: from Monday, the crews and equipment were ready to go into storm mode.

Supplies such as poles, transformers and wires were strategically placed to minimize disruption and allow crews to quickly respond to outages.

But a spokesman said the weather is the worst for blackouts due to icy conditions and sleet. He said it’s not overvoltage on power lines that causes the most problems.

“These are trees. Tree branches, large branches of trees, entire trees, they sag or fall and fall onto power lines,” said Andy Morgan of Oncor. “And I know people don’t like to cut trees, but that’s why we do it so we can keep the electricity going in their neighborhoods. it becomes critical. And it starts to increase the weight of these branches and tree branches, and they start to sag or break.”

Oncor says it is in talks with other energy companies about being able to come to North Texas to help them if conditions worsen, but a decision has yet to be made.
