Oakland Police Chief LeRonn Armstrong pushes for reinstatement

On Sunday, there was a new call for Oakland city officials to reinstate police chief Leron Armstrong as he said there was more information to support his position.

“Firstly, I would like to say that I believe that I should be reinstated because I did nothing wrong,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong added that he should be brought back as Oakland’s chief police officer. He said the findings in the report on his actions do not add up.

“My review confirms that the conclusion of the investigators and the federal observer about me is not supported by evidence. To be honest, the confidential report and information provided by the observer is embarrassing, it is not true,” he said.

Armstrong was placed on leave following the summary report amid allegations of insufficient scrutiny of an officer charged with misconduct. He did not go into details of the contents of the confidential report, but made critical remarks about the situation.

“The logic of the narrative about my role in the investigation defies even conventional logic,” he said.

Armstrong spoke at the Acts Full Gospel Church with supporters, including the Oakland chapter of the NAACP.

Tao previously mentioned that Armstrong was placed on administrative leave to be able to fully explore these findings.

On Sunday, NBC Bay Area reached out to City Hall for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Armstrong said progress has been made under his leadership and he wants to return.

“I have brought Oakland closer to the end of federal oversight than any other leader before,” he said. “I deserve to be the chief of police. As someone born and raised in Oakland, someone who fought.”
