North Texas school districts canceled Tuesday classes due to winter storm

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — North Texas school districts canceled classes on Tuesday due to winter storm warnings.

On Monday, dozens of school districts in the region remained closed, and dozens of others decided to close early.

Among the counties that ended the afternoon was Mansfield ISD.

Due to freezing rain, the parking lot at Mansfield Timberview High School may have been busier than usual as parents and other guardians had to pick up their students hours early.

Des Howard said she wasn’t happy. “It caused me a lot of inconvenience because I work from a home office. So I’m grateful for that, but they could have kept our children at home, given that we were ready, knew and were notified by the news that this was possible.

While some parents expressed disappointment, others praised Mansfield ISD’s decision to close schools early.

Brandi Freeman said, “We definitely needed to get there early, but it was worth it because our baby has to be safe all the time.”

Brenda Stewar, the grandmother, said, “I think it’s a great idea and I think they should have even kept them out of school today.”

The district distributed layoffs among elementary, middle, middle and high schools.

Yonte Price, a teacher from another district, said he would prefer Mansfield ISD to close for today. “I don’t think they should have been here at all. I myself am an educator in the White Settlement, and this morning we were closed.”

Neighboring counties, Arlington ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Midlothian ISD had a regular day of school, although Arlington and Midlothian had no after-school classes.
