North Texas Olympian to play Disney’s Elsa

North Texas Olympian Ashley Kane gears up for her new role ahead of figure skating spectators worldwide.

She portrays Elsa from Frozen in the Disney on Ice show Mickey & Friends.

“It’s a pretty cool job,” Kane told NBC 5 as she returned to the rink in Ulesse, where she trains.

Cain says she may refer to a popular character.

“I mean, this is Queen Elsa. It’s really powerful.”

She says the audience also finds common ground, especially when the song known to “Frozen” fans everywhere fills the arena.

“When they hear ‘Let it Go’, they sing at the top of their lungs,” she said.

Kane says stepping into a high-profile role, learning the choreography, and learning how to ride in bulky costumes and wigs wasn’t easy.

“This was hard. There were tears. But I have some really great co-stars on set who kept me in good spirits and said, “We know how you feel,” she said. “Eventually, it will become second nature to you and you won’t even think about it.”

As a member of Disney on Ice’s overseas lineup, Kane spends most of his time away from DFW.

“I knew that when I retired I still had so much love and joy in the sport and still wanted to be a part of it in some capacity and this is the perfect opportunity to do so,” she said.

Cain has already spoken to audiences in the Middle East. Soon she will go to Asia and then to South America.

There is another reason why figure skating is special for Disney on ice. Kane’s parents, Darlene and Peter, were elite figure skaters themselves. And they were actors too.

“They actually met on tour,” Ashley said with a smile.

Kane says she has been pursuing her Olympic dream all her life. leaving the competition is a big adjustment. For the first time in years, she doesn’t spend hours on the ice every day with her longtime couples partner. Timothy LeDuc. Together Cain and LeDuc competed Team USA at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

“I miss them so much,” Cain said. LeDuc is also retired and works as a figure skating coach in Chicago.

Cain is now focused on the next chapter of his story. She says that through Mickey and Friends, she hopes to inspire a new generation of skaters.

“I know that when I was younger, going to these shows and seeing these skaters, I wanted to be there. And I hope I can do it for someone,” she said.
