North Texas man used fake emergency lights to ‘get people to drive better’, police say

Earlier this month, a man was arrested in Parker County for allegedly impersonating a police officer.

The Parker County Sheriff’s Department reports that on February 18, someone called law enforcement to report an unmarked blue Dodge pickup truck with blue and red warning lights on the truck’s dashboard trying to stop the vehicle on Newsom Mound Road.

The driver said that the truck was closely following his car and that the truck was flashing its headlights in an attempt to cut off the driver and prevent his car from leaving the area.

The Parker County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and arrested 42-year-old Luciano Amador Velasquez.

Velázquez allegedly told deputies that he turned on his headlights because he was not happy with the victim’s driving and had used headlights in the past to “make people drive better”.

He was charged with impersonating a government official, which is a criminal offence.

Earlier this month, the Dallas police reported an increase in the number of people impersonating officers, noting that 3 incidents from January 14 to February 3.
