North Texas Habitat for Humanity Officials Appreciate Jimmy Carter’s Contributions

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s work project was here in 2014. For one week in 2014, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s work project worked in North Texas. Former President Jimmy Carter worked with volunteers from the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and Trinity Habitat for Humanity.

“I think it was a very good build week. It’s especially great to see Dallas and Fort Worth working together so smoothly as a habitat team, so that’s nice,” former President Jimmy Carter said in a 2014 Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity video.

And for those whose houses he helped build, there are lessons and memories.

“It was one of my dreams and goals to have my own home for me and my children, and you know, it was a dream and he always told us: “Never give up on your dream,” said Benita Luna. from Dallas, who has a photo of them working together on her house.

“He is so humble, simple, very sweet, sweet, funny, hardworking,” Luna said.

President Carter worked on dozens of homes in Dallas and Fort Worth during his visit.

“President Carter is one of the hardest working volunteers I’ve ever met,” said Blaine Coworth, vice president of Dallas Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Services.

Coworth, vice president of Dallas Habitat for Humanity, remembers former President Carter talking to everyone.

“I think President Carter’s legacy will certainly be about his humanitarian efforts and just about the love he poured out to communities around the world,” Coworth said.

The Carter Foundation said over the weekend that the president would begin hospice care at home after a short hospital stay.

President Carter continues to be recognized for his work in the areas of human rights, social justice, democracy promotion, and humanitarian action.

“On Presidents Day, the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity acknowledges former US President Jimmy Carter for over 39 years of partnership and support,” Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity said in a statement. “While we can count the number of homes built in past Carter Work Projects (4,390), the number of people inspired by President Carter’s sincere words and actions in support of our mission is incalculable. We continue to wish him comfort and well-being as he is surrounded by the love of his family in Plains, Georgia.”

“With hearts full of gratitude, Trinity Habitat for Humanity sends our prayers, peace and love to the President, Mrs. Carter and their family at this time,” Trinity Habitat for Humanity said in a statement. “Their influence and contribution to the Habitat families, not only here in Fort Worth, but throughout the world, will be known for generations.”
