North Texas drivers advised to stay off roads Friday morning as ice still remains

FORT WORTH, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – Drivers are being asked to limit travel on Friday morning as there are still patches of black ice and freezing fog in North Texas.

Sean Stone of the Fort Worth Police Department said road conditions “deteriorated significantly after sunset” on Thursday, making driving conditions extremely dangerous.

Fort Worth police worked out 25 major accidents overnight, including two separate fatalities, Stone said.

Officers also responded to several tractor trailers that overturned and an accident involving a Fort Worth fire engine, a MedStar ambulance and a police vehicle.

While some sunshine and temperatures above freezing are expected in North Texas on Friday, the sun won’t hit all the ice on secondary roads and in the surrounding area, so be careful when driving in these areas.

Some interstates and bridges will be fine on Friday, when North Texas has more sun and is warmer. But then, in the late afternoon, everything wet and left on the roads will freeze again, leaving the possibility of sleet on Saturday morning.
