North Texas congressman says debt ceiling must be raised or North Texas residents face ‘financial distress’

Congressman Mark Veasey is also touting President Biden’s address to the US Congress.

TEXAS, USA — In a couple of weeks, Congressman Mark Veasey will travel to Europe as a member of the US Helsinki Commission, where they will discuss the war in Ukraine and additional funding to help the country continue to defend itself against Russia.

That debate about funneling more money to Ukraine’s defense is also raging here in the United States as members of Congress argue over whether to raise the national debt ceiling to pay off the interest on its debt. It is also needed to fund federal programs already approved by Congress.

Defense spending – and the aid package to Ukraine – will make up a significant portion of the bill.

Veasey says there has never been a problem with raising the debt ceiling and there shouldn’t be one now.

After all, the North Texas Democrat says lawmakers did it for President Trump, so they should do it for President Biden too.

“In the end, we have to raise it,” he said. “And if we don’t, the financial disasters that will be caused by the Dallas and Fort Worth local taxpayers’ retirement plans, their stock portfolios, their real estate holdings, if we have some kind of financial disaster or crash because the Republicans are trying to play in this debt ceiling game, everything will be on them.”

Veasey also said Democrats heard what they needed to hear from President Biden during his recent State of the Union address, including what the party says it has done for the American people, from the bipartisan infrastructure deal to the lower inflation.

The Democrat also says it’s clear that President Biden is willing to work for another four years.

– You saw him during the performance. He was energetic. He was very alive. And he did a wonderful job selling America, which I think is important,” Vesey said. “America has once again become a serious global player on the scene, especially when it comes to maintaining democracy both at home and abroad.”
