Norfolk Southern train derailed in North Carolina, no danger to the public

A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed in Lexington, North Carolina on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for the company told Fox News Digital that one of the 132 cars on the freight train had derailed, adding that there were no reports of danger or dangerous situation to the public.

“This morning one of our trains going through Lexington derailed. Out of 132 train cars, 1 derailed. There are no reports of a hazard situation or danger to the public. Our team is safe and additional personnel are on their way to start the cleanup. We appreciate the patience and care shown by the population near this area during the cleanup work,” the spokesman said.

A derailed Norfolk Southern freight train brought several Amtrak trains to a halt, according to the report.

Saturday’s derailment came less than a month after another Norfolk Southern train carrying 50 railroad cars, 10 of which were carrying vinyl chloride, derailed in East Palestine, Ohio on Feb. 3. smoke into the air.
