‘No Scores’ Grand Jury Dallas Detective Accused of Misconduct

DALLAS (CBSTexasNews) – A Dallas County grand jury decided not to indict Dallas homicide detective Esteban Montenegro, according to his lawyer, Messina Madson.

“Detective Montenegro is an innocent man and a great detective who did his job and protected the people of Dallas. We’re glad the grand jury did the right thing,” Madson said.

Montenegro was accused of criminal misconduct in the case of another officer, Brian Reiser. In 2021, a 13-year-old veteran was charged with murder for allegedly ordering two murders in 2017. But Dallas County Criminal Court Judge Audrey Moorhead ordered Reiser’s release after prosecutors agreed they didn’t have enough evidence to move the case forward. He was also fired after he was charged with an alleged murder for hire.

Grand jury action clear Det. Montenegro, who said his only goal was to get justice for all criminal charges related to these cases.
