New Yorker accused of setting fire to pride flag expelled from court for repeated outbursts of anger

A woman accused of setting fire to a pride flag outside a Manhattan restaurant caused havoc in court on Wednesday by screaming repeatedly during her first appearance before a judge.

Angelina Cando, 35, interrupted proceedings in Manhattan Criminal Court several times as prosecutors charged her with acts of vandalism over the weekend, including burning a flag and vandalizing two NYPD vehicles.

Officials said she scrawled phrases like “Jesus”, “J&A” and “suck dk” along the Canal Street tube station before writing “Jesus is King” on two police cars.

Hours later, Kando allegedly set fire to a rainbow flag near the Little Prince in New York City in Soho. According to Assistant District Attorney Edward Smith, the flames blew out the windows of the restaurant, burned the flower display and damaged the doors.

Kando appeared before the judge in the morning, but was sent to the back of the courtroom to calm down after ranting about her mom and stepfather.

She later appeared before Judge John Zhuo Wang, although she continued to chatter nonsensically during the hearing.

Kando was arrested Monday on multiple counts of graffiti and hate crimes for two separate crimes, the latest in a series of Manhattans.

According to Smith, Kando was charged in January “with obstructing the breathing of another person. Throw multiple objects at him, causing cuts and lacerations.”

“False accusation. False accusation. They are all fake,” Kando shouted back.

According to Smith, earlier this month, Kando was charged with allegedly threatening employees of a pizzeria with a knife.

“Then I called the police,” Kando interrupted, to which the judge admonished him. Can do.”

“I beg your pardon, your honor,” Kando said in response.

Kando’s lawyer said that prior to the three incidents, she had never had a run-in with law enforcement and likely suffered from “some kind of psychotic break.”

Wang ordered a psychological evaluation to determine if Kangdo could stand trial and took her into custody.

After the hearing, Kando shouted, “All I did was write with a pen… Please release me, don’t pin me to the ground.”
