Naval Air Base lifts lockdown, says ‘no threats’ to active shooter at base

Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state was closed Wednesday afternoon due to reports of an “active gunfire threat” at the base.

Base security responded to a location north of Oak Harbor just before 4:30 p.m. The lockdown was lifted around 6:30 p.m. and operations are resuming as normal, a spokesman said.

“Baseline security responded to the location and cleared all locations and found no threats,” a spokesperson for Fox News Digital said.

Base personnel at Alt Field had previously been ordered to close, with all gates closed due to reports of an “active gunman threat”.

All personnel at Ault Field were ordered to seek shelter and remain where they were.

Base security, Oak Harbor Police and Naval Police (NCIS) arrived at the scene. NCIS will continue to investigate the incident.

Skagit Valley College, which is adjacent to the naval base, was locked down after 4:30 p.m. as a precaution and urged people to avoid the area. Classes have been canceled until the end of Wednesday.
