National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Should Hold Testing in Orlando

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – The Florida Department of Health in Orange County is partnering with local organizations in February to promote HIV/AIDS testing.

February 7 National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a day to celebrate progress in HIV prevention and care in the black community.

Blacks account for more than 40% of new HIV infections in the US, according to the CDC.

In 2020, there were 44% fewer HIV tests among blacks in non-medical settings than in 2019.

The first event is a free health test in partnership with Talk Test Treat Central Florida. It will take place on Saturday, February 5 at Lake Lorna Doon Park.

The event is suitable for children and will take place in the afternoon, offering free HIV tests, COVID-19 testing, various health screenings, food and vendors.

The second event will take place on February 7 at the Vacation Lodge at the start of the day in partnership with Crew Health.

The Orange County Department of Health says the event will promote HIV education, testing, and treatment among black communities.

The event will offer free HIV and STI testing.
