NASCAR drivers head to COTA track to prepare for NASCAR Triple Run

Three NASCAR Cup Series stars traveled to the Circuit of the Americas for tire testing Monday afternoon. They all plan to race in NASCAR in March.

The drivers told FOX 7 Austin it was an opportunity to test the track and get some statistics to get ready for the race in about nine weeks.

Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick and Austin Sindrik are driving NASCAR for the first time this year.

“If I had been allowed, I would have done all the tests,” Bush said.

They said it was the perfect opportunity to help them prepare for the Echopark Automotive Grand Prix NASCAR Cup Series in March.

“From a driver’s point of view, just racing on the very surface is a very difficult track,” Reddick said.

“When you switch back and forth through salem, it’s quite fun but also quite unnerving, we really felt like we almost fell apart on a couple of tires today,” Bush said.

“It’s fun when you put it all together and get it all right,” Sindrik said.

For Bush and Reddick, this was the debut in the new organization.

Busch now works for Richard Childress Racing, and he and his No. 8 team are sponsored by NetSpend, an Austin-headquartered financial company.

“The fans here have been really great, they’ve been able to come out and support the NASCAR race here, so it’s been really, really great to see that and to see people in the seats and the stands, and we need that support,” Bush said.

Reddick, along with the 23XI, races Toyota with the number 45.

“I was very excited to get to the track and see what level the road course program is at and they certainly felt like they wanted to make some improvements this off season and they hoped they could rely on me and what I did. we can learn to make it possible, so I definitely think we’re moving in the right direction,” Reddick said.

Sindrik drives the number 2 Ford for Team Penske. He is the second youngest Daytona 500 winner at age 23. He said he was very happy to be back in Austin.

“I will never forget how great the crowd was, especially because of COVID, the first race we had here and it was a big crowd again and I love how close we are to Austin and how unique it is.” Sendrik said.

NASCAR Tripleheader is back at the Circuit of the Americas for the third year from March 24-26. You can watch it on FOX 7 Austin.
