Memorial held for man killed near Pompano Beach while searching for shooter

POMPANO BEACH, Florida. (WSVN) — A grieving community has gathered at the moving memorial, days after authorities say a gunman fired a barrage of bullets outside a store in Pompano Beach, killing two people and sending two others to the hospital.

7News cameras on Friday night captured the mourners as they gathered together to pay tribute to Dyvon Johnson.

“My nieces and nephews have to grow up without a father, and two of them are too young to understand what is happening now,” said a family member.

That’s because when Johnson was shot, he wasn’t the only victim. Detectives said that Delana James and her unborn child also died.

Relatives said that James had just turned 30 years old.

Johnson was 35 years old. He left four children, a girlfriend and parents.

Each loved one experiences the pain of these bullets in their own way.

“When will this stop? And imagine your baby lying there,” said Lisa Snead, Johnson’s mother. “My child has four bullet holes in his head, four bullet holes in his head.”

CCTV footage showed Johnson riding his bike outside a corner store located on NW 27th Avenue when someone shot through the store and everyone around it with bullets.

Johnson and James would not have survived. Two more victims were taken to the hospital.

As of Friday evening, there were no detainees.

“We all want justice, and if you know anything, call the police because I need justice for my children,” said Karina Sorto, Johnson’s girlfriend.

“Please come, surrender,” said Sharon Harris, Johnson’s cousin. “We will forgive you anyway because we are a praying family. Praying families stay together.”

If you have any information about this shooting or the whereabouts of the shooter, please call Broward County Crime Squad at 954-493-TIPS. Remember that you can always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
