NASA partners with North East ISD to aid student education in space.

NASA has signed a Space Act Agreement with the North East Independent School District allowing students to delve into the realm of space exploration and engineering. The agreement involves a partnership that will primarily benefit students in the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA) at Krueger Middle School and Roosevelt High School in San Antonio. The partnership will bring onboard a NASA expert working closely with the two schools to incorporate NASA curriculum, experiences, and opportunities into the program.

The SETA program is set to launch in the 2023-24 school year with grade 6 and 9 classes at Krueger and Roosevelt. The program will gradually grow into a complete program for grades 6 through 12. Students from all over San Antonio can currently apply by visiting neisd.net/magnetprograms, and courses will center around the aerospace industry, including aviation technology, aerospace engineering, computer science, and manufacturing.

The agreement is only the second of its kind as NASA has never before entered into such a partnership with a school district. The collaboration with NEISD reflects NASA’s desire to enhance educational opportunities for students and boost their interest in pursuing careers in space exploration and engineering.

KENS 5, a news and entertainment source that has been providing reliable information to San Antonians for over 70 years, reported the partnership. In its report, it highlighted KENS 5’s significant role in transforming local news and bringing stories that matter to the community. The station’s cameras have played an instrumental role in bringing history into local viewers’ homes.

KENS 5 is renowned for its continued innovation and excellence in local broadcasting, with numerous firsts to its credit, including being the first station to have its own helicopter, Doppler radar, and local morning news program. The station continues to set the standard in local broadcasting with its presence on several digital platforms, including the KENS 5 app, KENS 5 YouTube channel, as well as social media handles on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and beyond.

The partnership between NASA and NEISD represents an incredible opportunity for students to gain hands-on knowledge and experience in the aerospace industry. It highlights the importance of creating a solid foundation for students’ future pursuits in STEM careers and encouraging them to develop a love for science and technology.
