Motorcyclist, 60, dies in Volusia collision per troopers

A saddening vehicular accident in Volusia County, Florida resulted in the death of a 60-year-old Daytona Beach motorcyclist on Sunday afternoon, according to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. near the Wright Street and Circle Drive intersection on the fateful day. As per the crash report from the authorities, a Ford Focus that was heading westbound on Wright Street found itself on a collision course with a Suzuki motorcycle, which was traveling eastbound on the same road.

A witness account stated that the motorcyclist was exceeding the posted speed limit at the time of the crash. The report further indicated that the driver of the Ford Focus attempted a left-hand turn to make its way southbound on Circle Drive, which resulted in it blocking the motorcycle’s path. The unfortunate accident led to a collision between the front of the motorcycle and the right side of the sedan.

Troopers stated that the motorcyclist was immediately taken to a local hospital after the accident where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as a 60-year-old Daytona Beach resident. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Focus, identified as a 32-year-old Holly Hill man, avoided injuries.

The case remains under active investigation, following which legal and official proceedings may follow, depending upon the results of the same.
