More McCarthy opponents added to House oversight committees and judiciary

Kevin McCarthy added more Republicans who initially opposed his proposal to become Speaker of two high-ranking committees in the House of Representatives: the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee.

Fox News confirmed that McCarthy, Calif., placed Lauren Bobert, Colo., Scott Perry, Pa., Byron Donalds, Fla., and freshman Anna Paulina Luna, Fla., in the House of Representatives resisting Freedom Congress. ., in the Oversight Committee.

Firebrand representatives Marjorie Taylor Green, of Georgia, and Paul Gosar, of Arizona, who were stripped of their positions in 2021 due to controversial statements, will also receive seats on this committee.

Rep. Lauren Bobert did not vote for Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.

In addition, Representatives Matt Goetz, Florida, Andy Biggs, Arizona, and Chip Roy, Texas, will continue to serve on the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Chairman Jim Jordan, Ohio.

According to a congressional source, the first judicial hearing in the House of Representatives of the 118th Congress will involve the border and will likely take place in late January or early February.

Gatz and Bobert led the “Never McCarthy” opposition to his bid for the top leadership position.

Gaetz called McCarthy a “desperate guy” and insisted that he was ready to vote “all night, all week, all month” against him. McCarthy received the speaker’s gavel when Gatz, Bobert, and other GOP opponents finally voted “in attendance”, which reduced the minimum vote required for McCarthy to obtain a majority.

Last week, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds and freshman, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles both were appointed to the House Financial Services Committee. This committee is chaired by Rep. Patrick McHenry, RN.C., who helped McCarthy negotiate his successful campaign become Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Other opponents, Representatives Andrew Clyde, of Georgia, and Michael Cloud, of Texas, both won seats on the House Appropriations Committee, which Republicans hope to use to limit federal spending in the new Congress.

The fifth member of the House Freedom Caucus, South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman, has already served on the House Financial Services Committee and will remain on it in the new Congress.
