MLK Day Parade in Dallas returns after a two-year hiatus

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – As the people of North Texas honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., several events have been held in the community.

One of the biggest is the annual MLK Parade in Dallas. In the past two years it has been suspended due to the pandemic, but this year it is back.

Along MLK Boulevard and Holmes Street to Fair Park, thousands of people lined the street to celebrate the life of Dr. King.

It was attended by about 250 organizations, from non-profits to dancers and training teams.

This parade means so much to those who came to the bright event. “This is very important, two of my children are participating in the parade,” Tanekua Williams said.

Don Paul Chaisson and Dinah Woods Woods were among the first to take a seat to watch this parade.

“It’s critical to see the community coming together,” Chaisson said.

“This is important to me because the work that Dr. King has done gives me the opportunity to get out here and just be part of the community and live his legacy, make his dream come true,” added Woods.

It’s Dr. King’s legacy and his message that resonates so many decades later.

“Dr. King’s legacy is a non-violent approach and we’re going to continue his message, today’s theme is a day of service, not a day off, so we’re here to celebrate his legacy for years to come. so we’re excited,” said Clinton Baker, organizer of the MLK parade in Dallas. “That dream, everyone has a passion to really achieve something that feels deep inside of them that they want to overcome or see it happen.”
