Missing McKinney girls found, AMBER Alert reports; Family says they are safe

The AMBER warning for two sisters has been lifted.

McKinney, Texas. The two missing girls, who were last seen in McKinney on Thursday night, have been found, according to the state’s AMBER Alert system, and their family says they are safe.

More details about where they were found, and other circumstances of their location have not yet been confirmed.

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s AMBER Alert for two girls was updated Sunday night to “found.”

A family member confirmed to the WFAA that the girls were found unharmed.

The WFAA does not identify the girls as they were minors and their whereabouts have been established.

Jamie Burns, 60, who police say is the girls’ paternal grandmother, has been named a suspect on alert. Police have not confirmed whether Burns was in custody in the case.

The girls’ father is in custody on kidnapping charges after the children were last seen during a Child Protective Services supervised visit Thursday night, police said.

The incident triggered an AMBER Alert early Friday morning.

The girls were last seen at the 320 North Central Expressway in McKinney just before 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the alert and police.

The two missing girls were last seen at a restaurant at the location, where they were “visiting under the supervision of their father, who is not in custody, along with a police officer who had temporary custody of the girls,” the police said in a statement.

The CPS told the WFAA that the girls’ mother had died, but did not say when she passed away.

Police McKinney said that James Burns is believed to have driven a 2009 Black Ford Escape.

At 10:30 am Friday, police said the girls’ father, Justin Burns, is believed to be involved in the incident, was arrested and charged with two felony kidnapping charges. On Friday morning, he was in custody at the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.

A CPS employee called 911 Thursday night to report the girls were missing, officials said, triggering an AMBER Alert.

Officials have said that Jame Burns has a criminal record; in 2005, she was charged with residential theft. The case ended with a statement to the court, according to the materials of the court.

The WFAA contacted the CPS for more information, but did not receive an immediate response.

The warning was issued around 1 a.m. Friday. McKinney is located north of Dallas in Collin County.

Law enforcement officials believe the girls are “in grave or imminent danger,” the report said. McKinney police said, “We have reason to believe they are in serious danger.”

The police worked with the FBI to find the girls.

Jessica Burns, who is 4’10” and weighs about 90 pounds, was last seen wearing dark-rimmed glasses, a red long-sleeved shirt, black sleeves and blue jeans.

Jennifer Burns, 4 feet tall and 60 pounds, was last seen wearing purple-rimmed glasses, a light blue sequined shirt, and blue jeans.

The warning states that Jame Burns, 5ft 2in and weighing 230lbs, was last seen wearing black clothing.

More details about the grandmother’s and CPS’s involvement in the situation and how the incident happened have not been released. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to immediately call the McKinney Police Department at 972-547-2700 or 911. Anyone with advice can also call 972-547-2758.
