Missing Dallas Zoo monkeys found in abandoned house in Lancaster

Two missing emperor tamarins from the Dallas Zoo have been found.

Zoo officials say Dallas police found the animals early Tuesday evening.

Dallas police said they received a tip that the monkey could be in the abandoned Lancaster home.

With the help of the Lancaster Police, the officers broke into the house and found the monkeys in the closet. The house was empty.

Police called the zoo to go to the site to return the animals for evaluation. They didn’t say anything about the condition of the monkeys.

Dallas police say no arrests have been made.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday, police released a photo of a man they wanted to talk to about the missing monkey, but they made it clear that he was not considered a person of interest at the time. The police did not say if they were able to talk to him.

Police were initially called to the zoo on Monday after zoo officials said the animal enclosure had been opened and the monkeys were missing.

This is just one of four bizarre and possibly criminal events at the Dallas Zoo this month.

Earlier this month, police and zoo officials said the clouded leopard was able to leave its habitat after a fence was deliberately cut through. She was found unharmed a few hours later.

The langur exhibit was also found deliberately opened.

Just last week, zoo officials said an endangered vulture was found dead under “suspicious” circumstances.

Dallas Police and US Fish and Wildlife were called to investigate the incidents to see if they were related.

The zoo says more cameras, security patrols and night staff have been added since these strange events.
