Missing 13-year-old Dallas girl found locked in men’s barn in North Carolina

A man has been charged with serious crimes after a 13-year-old girl went missing. Dallas two weeks ago, he was rescued from a locked barn in his North Carolina home.

Richie Simmons, sheriff of Davidson County, North Carolina, said at a press conference Monday that his department contacted a special agent for the Texas FBI Violent Crime Task Force late Friday afternoon about a missing Dallas girl who was believed to be was with an adult Lexington resident identified as 34-year-old Jorge Ivan Santos Camacho.

Officials in North Carolina said during a press conference on Monday that about 10 minutes after receiving a tip from FBI they monitored Camacho’s home in Lexington, about 60 miles northeast of Charlotte.

The sheriff’s department said they stopped Camacho as he was leaving the house Friday night and soon found the girl locked in an outbuilding. The property owner said she allowed Camacho to stay there, but said he did not live in the main house on the property and that she did not know he had anyone else living with him.

Simmons said investigators learned that the girl was communicating with an adult through an unidentified social network, and that the nature of those communications was consistent with courtship and seduction, and that the girl was encouraged and urged to leave her home.

According to a missing poster posted online, the girl was last seen in Dallas on March 1st. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Department said video cameras near the girl’s home at around the time captured a vehicle registered at a Davidson County, North Carolina address.

Following her rescue on Friday, the girl, who appeared to be unharmed, was taken to a medical center for examination before being reunited with her family in Dallas. Because the missing girl is a minor and is believed to be the victim of a sex crime in order to protect her identity, her name was deliberately omitted from this story.

Simmons said Camacho faces a number of felony charges including kidnapping a child, criminal detainment of a child, human trafficking, rape of a person under 15, and indecent liberties with a child. Camacho, Simmons said, could face additional costs and is being held up by bonds totaling $1.25 million. Camacho first appeared in court on Monday afternoon, and the judge told him that if found guilty, he could face life in prison without parole. It is not immediately clear whether Camacho received a lawyer.

Simmons did not release any details about Camacho’s criminal history, including whether he committed crimes against children. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Simmons warned parents that incidents like this are becoming more common and that parents should be more aware of what their children are doing online.

“If it doesn’t stop at home, it will reach the schools and teachers have that responsibility. If it doesn’t stop there, it will unfortunately get to us,” Simmons said. “As parents, they need to wise up and see that the danger to these children continues to exist. Please help us. I am very grateful. I thank God that we were able to find this girl. be like this forever.

The FBI confirmed to NBC 5 on Monday afternoon that they helped find the missing girl, but they had little information about the investigation as the charges against Camacho are currently state charges, not federal charges. If federal charges are filed against Camacho, it will be announced by the US Attorney’s Office.
