Mexico kidnap survivor’s wife says he’s ‘just happy to be alive’

The wife of an American kidnapped in Mexico last week said her husband was “just glad to be alive.” He was taken along with three other people. They both died.

“Hearing his voice made me cry a lot,” Michelle Williams, wife of Eric Williams, said of the call that told her he was safe.

She said he told her, “I’m just glad I’m alive.”

She said, “It’s sad because two more people have died.”

Eric Williams was one of four Americans who were taken away from Mexico after they crossed the border. He improves at a hospital in Brownsville, Texas, where he underwent surgery after being shot in the leg during an attack.

Latavia “Tay” McGee was also rescued, but was unharmed.

Also found dead were Zindell Brown and Shaid Woodard, two other Americans. Officials in the US are trying to return their bodies to the US

At least five Mexican territories are on the State Department’s “not for travel” list.

A US law enforcement source told CBS News that investigators believe the Gulf Cartel was behind the attack, which took place in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

The tweet below confirms the news:

Williams, McGee, Woodard and Brown were taken at gunpoint for no apparent reason. A member of McGee’s family told CBS News that the group traveled from South Carolina so she could get a cosmetic procedure. They also said that McGee had been in the area before for the same reason.

At least five Mexican territories, including Tamaulipas, are on the State Department’s “No Travel” list due to issues such as crime and kidnapping.

On Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press conference that Americans should do less in Mexico. She also said she believes Americans who want to go to Mexico should listen to what the State Department has to say.
