McKinney ISD names current county executive as sole finalist for superintendent position

McKinney, Texas. McKinney Independent School District has become the latest district in North Texas to receive a new superintendent.

The board of trustees stayed close to home and found their new superintendent in Sean Pratt, who is currently the District’s Assistant Superintendent for Student Activities, Health and Safety.

The search for a board of directors began in December 2022 when Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel announced his resignation.

In a statement, the district said Pratt has 30 years of experience in education, all of which was related to McKinney ISD.

He began his career as a school teacher in 1992 and in 1993 became a teacher and sports coordinator at Slaughter High School.

The district said he would eventually become McKinney North’s first head football coach when the school opened in 2000. After working there for nine years, he became the district director of athletics.

According to the district, Pratt is credited with creating the McKinney ISD Athletics Hall of Honor Award in 2013 to reward student athletes, coaches and others.

“I am honored and incredibly grateful to be able to serve the McKinney ISD community as Superintendent,” Pratt said in a statement. “McKinney has been my home since 1992 when I started teaching at McKinney High School and Fobion High School. My wife and I have raised three children here and all three have had outstanding educational experiences. MISD has outstanding students, faculty, administrators and board members, and I consider it a true privilege to lead the MISD family.”

Under state law, there is now a 21-day waiting period before Pratt can be formally confirmed as the next county superintendent.
