McCarthy: “That’s the hardest part of the business.” Dallas Cowboys part ways with six coaches

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff will look different next season. On Thursday, the team announced that it was not renewing the contracts of six coaches on the staff of Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

The list of coaches listed in the statement includes assistant head coach Rob David, senior defensive assistant George Edwards, assistant defensive line coach and former Cowboys player Leon Lett, running back coach Skip Pete, offensive line coach Joe Philbin, and offensive line coach quality control analyst Kyle Valero.

“We thank these people for their hard work, dedication and contribution to the Cowboys. Each of them represented our team and organization in a professional manner with class and a passion to make our team better,” McCarthy said. “These were difficult decisions because of the great respect I have for each of them as a coach and person of character, combined with the experiences we all went through together. This is the hardest part of the business, and we don’t wish them anything. but the best.”

The Dallas Cowboys avoided another unbeaten playoff streak by decisively beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31–14 in an NFC wildcard game on January 16, however, they were unable to maintain momentum and Lost 19–12 to the San Francisco 49ers the following week.

According to CBS Sports, the Cowboys have made twelve straight playoff appearances without reaching a conference championship game, giving them the dubious distinction of being the only NFL team to do so.
