Massachusetts Democratic Party resigns over backlash over comments about abortion and special needs children

Michael Hugo resigned as chairman of the Framingham Democratic Committee in Massachusetts on Thursday after weeks of backlash over complaints about the cost of special education for children who didn’t get an abortion.

“I’ve apologized too many times, but it seems clear to all objective observers that there is something extraordinary about this particular crisis as it has an extraordinary life,” Hugo wrote in an email to the committee obtained by Fox News. “Time will tell why this has become – literally – international history, and why it has been reinforced by the chairman of the Ashland Republican Committee.”

He also said in an email Thursday that he made the decision after talking with his wife and Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka, a fellow Democrat.
