Martin County Fair held with large crowds

STUART, Florida. The Martin County Fair kicks off with a large gathering on Saturday, the second of nine days.

The fair, which began in 1935, is the oldest and largest event in Martin County.

Executive director Jay Spicer said that this is already a record number of viewers.

“It’s in the public domain,” Spicer said. “We support over 50 nonprofits here in Martin County, so let’s organize activities for kids to put their phones down and get their hands dirty.”

However, growing interest means the fair may outgrow its current home.

“Over the years, we have lost almost all available parking,” Spicer said.

Spicer said work has already begun on clearing the area selected for the new space on Citrus Boulevard in Indianatown.

But there remains work to raise about $1 million needed for the resettlement.

“Once we receive this last million, we will be ready to start building and launch this project,” Spicer said, noting that this is still a long way off.

Fair goers said they would keep coming no matter where they were.
