Man in critical condition after being attacked with a hammer, trapped in a fire at Houston’s Sunnyside: HPD

HOUSTON – A man is in critical condition after his nephew hit him with a hammer and then locked him in his house during a fire on Tuesday, Houston Police Department officers said.

HPD responded to reports of aggravated assault in the 4000 Knoxville area around 00:45.

When they arrived at the scene, the police said they saw people running out of the house and heavy smoke and flames coming out of the house. Houston Fire Department officials were dispatched and quickly brought the blaze under control as police officers reportedly began detaining witnesses and suspects.

According to HFD, firefighters found the man inside the house and dragged him out of the house. The man was taken to a nearby emergency room, where police say he remains in critical condition.

Police said the victim was attacked by his nephew with a hammer before the house was set on fire.
