Man from Toms River Faces Indictment for Attempted Murder and Weapons Offenses

On June 12, 2024, Million Brown-Bey, a 47-year-old resident of Toms River, was formally charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and being a Certain Person Not to Possess a Firearm by a Grand Jury convened in Ocean County, as announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The charges stem from an incident on January 7, 2024, when the Lakewood Township Police Department received reports of gunfire near the West Gate Shopping Complex. Subsequently, a 27-year-old male victim was admitted to Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township with gunshot wounds to both arms. After receiving treatment, the victim was discharged.

A thorough investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau revealed that the victim was shot at a residence on Hillside Avenue. The perpetrator, identified as Brown-Bey, approached the victim’s vehicle and fired a single round, injuring the victim’s arms. Despite the injuries, the victim managed to drive himself to the hospital for medical attention.

Following the investigation, Brown-Bey was apprehended on January 11, 2024, by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Lakewood Township Police Department. He has been held at the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.

Prosecutor Billhimer commended the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs/Intelligence/Homeland Security Squad, Lakewood Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, South Toms River Police Department, Lakehurst Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their assistance in the investigation.

It is important to note that the charges brought against Brown-Bey are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case was presented to the Grand Jury by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater on behalf of the State, in compliance with legal procedures.
