Love is in the air at Brookdale Westover Hills Nursing Home

FORT WORTH, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – The spirit of Valentine’s Day is alive and well at the Brookdale Westover Hills Nursing Home in Fort Worth, proving you’re never too old for a little romance.

“It’s hard to believe,” said Thomas Bush, who turns 76 tomorrow. “This is my best friend. She helps me get through the tough times.”

In December, he and his wife Jean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They met while working in the same shoe store. Thomas said he was drawn to her beauty and Jean fell in love with his personality.

The couple got married just two weeks later.

“And I really don’t know how we lived 50 years, but every year we say: let’s do it again,” Thomas said.

Five decades of marriage didn’t feel like work to Jean.

“Not really,” she said. “It’s all about how you do it.

Their best advice for a long-term relationship?

“The main thing is to stay in love,” Thomas said.

Geneva and Calvin Rowe will not be difficult. They met when Calvin moved into the nursing home in 2020 when residents were supposed to be in quarantine.

“We all had to stay in the room with the door closed, and every time I looked out, this person would come out,” Geneva said.

They started playing cards every evening and quickly fell in love with each other.

Calvin and Geneva got married last April.

At 94, Geneva, like no other, was surprised by this romance. Her first marriage lasted 73 years.

Who expected this? She said. “My eldest son said, do what makes you happy. That’s what we did.”

They make each other laugh and don’t expect the honeymoon phase to end anytime soon.

“She’s special,” Calvin said of his fiancee. “She is always right. It does not matter. It might rain outside, if she says no, it’s not.”

The couples plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day at a party organized by the facility.
