Lost Texas dog makes incredible journey back to former shelter and rings doorbell to return

A newly adopted rescue dog from Texas ran away from her new owners and made the 10-mile journey back to her former animal shelter, where she rang the doorbell in the middle of the night.

“As we knew, dogs are incredible,” the El Paso Animal Rescue League wrote on Facebook. “Bailey made her way back to ARL on her own and rang our doorbell at 1:15 a.m. saying she wanted to come in. The staff rushed to the shelter and forced Bailey to flee. She was very happy and so were we.”

Last month, the rescue center issued an alert to ask El Paso residents to keep an eye on Bailey, informing readers that she is a “very friendly” dog.

What the group and her adoptive family didn’t know at the time was that the husky mix made the roughly 10-mile journey through busy intersections over the course of two days back to the animal rescue center using only its nose and brain power. map of the area, reports KARE 11.

Bailey reached the center in the middle of the night and called her former caretakers by ringing the doorbell.

“Hell, at 1:42 a.m. she rings the doorbell saying, ‘I’m home,'” Loretta Hyde, the league’s founder, told USA Today. “The Ring camera kept going off and on…and you will see in the video that she is running there, sitting and waiting for someone to come.”

When one of the other staff at the shelter saw the puppy in the Ring cell, the worker called her name over the loudspeaker, and “it exploded right on camera,” says Hyde.

“I’m here, let me in, where are you?” Hyde said what must have gone through the dog’s mind when he rang the bell.

According to Hyde, an employee rushed to the scene to bring Bailey inside, and according to Hyde, she slept through the night.

“She slept so soundly all night,” Hyde said. “The next morning she said: “You can serve me breakfast there. I’ll bring it in a minute. I’m still resting.” So, three days without food and water, I mean, she was making up for her rest.”

Bailey is now at home with her new family.

“It was such a happy ending for all of us,” Hyde said.
