Lost dog finds way to former shelter and rings doorbell for help

Bailey not only made her way across town to the orphanage she used to live in, but she knew exactly how to let her old friends know she was there.

EL PASO, Texas. A Texas rescue dog embarks on a journey similar to the plot of the Homecoming sequel, escaping from the hands of a new owner and finding himself at the front door of his former shelter – in the middle of the night – a doorbell rings, asking to be let in.

On Jan. 29, the El Paso Animal Rescue League posted an emergency alert on social media asking for help to find newly adopted Bailey, who has run away from her owner. Several people on the rescuers’ Facebook page reported seeing her, but no one was able to catch her.

Obviously, it’s because Bailey had a plan. Lowering her nose, she headed straight for the most familiar places.

Following a mental roadmap that stunned the shelter staff and likely made a New York taxi driver jealous, Bailey returned to the Animal Rescue League two days later, about 10 miles from her new home.

But what’s a girl to do when you show up in the middle of the night and there’s no one to let you in? Ring the bell, of course.

Just after 1:00 a.m. on January 31, shelter staff received a doorbell notification with a picture of a very cute, very tired puppy at the front door. The staff rushed there to let Bailey in, gave her a warm blanket and covered her.

“Bailey is safe now,” the shelter said. “To all those who searched, noticed, called, hoped – we thank you. As we knew, dogs are incredible. rushed to the shelter and forced Bailey to flee. She was very happy and so were we.”

Bailey has since been reunited with her new family.

“She lived in the shelter sooooo long, it was her home,” the shelter added on social media. “She felt safe here. When she was released, she had a mission to return home.”
