Help for tornado victims

Shelters from natural disasters

The Red Cross Baker Ripley shelter at 720 Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena is nearly full.

They open a second emergency shelter at Revive Church, 1062 Fairmont Parkway.

The Greater Houston Salvation Army opened a Pasadena Aid Station at the corner of Burke and Yellowstone to provide food, aid information and cleaning kits.

A second help station will be set up in Deer Park at the Central Baptist Church located at Center Street and Oak Street.

How to help tornado victims in Houston

If you’re looking for a way to help, experts say the best thing you can do at this stage is to donate money to disaster relief organizations.

“Cash is the best investment as supplies can be purchased in the affected areas to meet the specific needs of those affected,” said Deer Park city leaders.

For those who choose to donate goods or services, contact relief agencies to inquire about the immediate needs of people in the affected areas.

Unsolicited donations such as clothing, albeit well-intentioned, can create additional problems for communities that are not prepared to store or distribute them.

Embossed Kroger Drive

Kroger Co. Foundation and The Salvation Army are sponsoring a tornado relief event that gives customers an easy way to donate.

Kroger stores in Greater Houston accept donations of $1, $5, and $10 at the checkout, or shoppers can round their purchase to the nearest dollar.

Kroger said 100% of donations will go to the Red Cross to help local families.

“It is incredibly devastating to watch the devastation caused by a hurricane in southeast Texas, where our partners and customers live and where we have stores,” said Kroger Houston President Laura Gump.

Kroger also offers assistance to employees affected by the tornado.

Crowdsourcing rescue

On Tuesday, volunteers from the non-profit Texas Disaster Response Organization Crowdsource Rescue helped rescue tornado victims, and now they are helping with recovery.

If you want to intervene tweet them or email [email protected].

Help displaced animals

A tornado devastated the Pasadena Animal Shelter on Tuesday, displacing dozens of pets. About 70 animals were taken to the adoption center of the shelter next door.

Rescue teams have taken some of the dogs to their own shelters, and the Houston Humane Society has taken in 27 cats.

As of Tuesday evening, they still need homes for about 40 dogs.
