Lincoln has the most snowfall in two years

Lincoln residents, accustomed to avoiding mowers threatened by two seasons of winter storms, were caught off guard when Mother Nature finally struck Thursday.

The storm that hit Lincoln on Thursday morning brought more snow than the city has seen in more than two years, canceling a number of events and making travel difficult as municipal crews work to clear roads.

Lincoln Airport has accumulated 8.8 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Since January 25, 2021, when 14.5 inches of snow fell in Lincoln in a single day, it was the most snow the city has had in a single day.

The city has not had snowfall of this magnitude since March 2021, when a total of 8.8 inches fell.

The weather forecast for the Lincoln area called for 4 to 7 inches of snow, but the forecast was changed to 3 to 5 inches of snow overnight.

However, Becky Kern, a meteorologist at the Valley office of the National Weather Service, said the storm’s predicted path had changed northward, meaning that the heaviest snowfall predicted to fall south of Interstate 80 was instead this hit the I-80 corridor.
