Larry Hogan: I won’t run for Republican President in 2024

Former Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MD) said Sunday on CBS’ Face the Nation that he will not seek the Republican nomination for president.

Hogan said, “I’ve seriously thought about it, I’ve talked to people everywhere and I’ve talked to my family. And it was a difficult decision. But I have decided that I will not run as a Republican for President.”

When asked about former President Donald Trump’s toughness towards opponents, Hogan said, “It didn’t scare me that much. You are right. It would be a tough race. And he’s very tough. But, you know, I beat a life-threatening cancer. So the fact that Trump called me names on Twitter didn’t really scare me.”

He added: “I didn’t need this job. I didn’t have to run to another office. It was really, I considered it because I thought it was a public service and maybe I could make a difference.”

Hogan concluded, “I didn’t want a bunch of people to fight. Right now, you know, Trump and DeSantis are at the top of the field, they’re sucking up all the oxygen, getting all the attention. And then a lot of the rest of us in the single digits, and the more of them you have, the less chance you have of anyone going up.”
