LA County deputy’s brother launches search efforts in Greece

Days after a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy disappeared while hiking in Greece, his brother remains steadfast in the search efforts. Albert Calibet, last seen on June 11 trekking on the island of Amargos, has prompted his brother Oliver Calibet, accompanied by four other retired deputies, to scour a remote area in Greece in a relentless pursuit to locate him.

Oliver, speaking to NBC4, divulged the exhaustive search through dense foliage and rugged terrain in a bid to reunite with his missing brother. Expressing sentiments of uncertainty, Oliver remarked, “Maybe he crawled under here, I don’t know anymore,” reflecting on the dire circumstances. Despite the challenges, Oliver emphasized Albert’s altruistic nature, stating, “His whole life he’s been out there helping people,” as the search persists.

Speculating on the probable scenarios of Albert’s disappearance, Oliver contemplates the possibility of injury or seeking shelter under a bush for respite. Acknowledging his brother’s resilience, Oliver contemplated, “He could eat the plants, I mean he’s a survivor you know,” underscoring his unwavering hope for Albert’s safe return amidst emotional turmoil.

The emotional toll of the search weighs heavily on Oliver, evident through tearful reflections on the ongoing efforts. Disrupting his daily routine, Oliver disclosed the temporary halt in business operations to focus solely on locating his brother in Greece. Expressing frustration over the limited search support, Oliver pleaded for assistance, emphasizing, “Can we give him a little respect? A little help?” as the search intensifies.

The absence of a substantial response from the US State Department and Greek authorities has further fueled Oliver’s frustrations, emphasizing the inadequacy of the current efforts in locating his brother. Despite the setbacks, Oliver, accompanied by fellow deputies and friends, remains resolute in the search efforts, unwilling to relent until Albert is found. Deputy Calibet’s commendable service with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Service Bureau since 1998 underscores the unwavering commitment to duty and the relentless pursuit of justice.
