Black History Is Our History: A Celebration of Progress and Inspiration CBS News Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) “From the legendary cowboy to the man who had a hand in building so many iconic local developments, our black community member’s contributions are evident in every corner of North Texas.

This month, CBS News Texas is proud to celebrate Black History Month by highlighting the people who have made North Texas a better place through their vision and their actions. In our half-hour special Black History Is Our History, CBS News Texas host Nicole Baker shares some of these stories from the African American Museum at Dallas Fairgrounds, an institution dedicated to the preservation of African American art, culture, and history.

Black History Is Our History covers many topics, including the stories of three high school football coaches breaking barriers in North Texas. We also hear from a teacher who uses music to inspire and educate. Nicole meets with the former Dallas County History Commissioner to learn more about the history of the Friedman Cemetery in Dallas.
