JonFX’s “Vintage Collection” album is a tribute to the pioneers of Jamaican music

SOUTH FLORIDA – While watching last year’s Grammy Awards, JonFX was impressed by singer-songwriter John Baptiste, who won Album of the Year for We Are despite a lack of massive major label support.

“The throwback concept of We Are appealed to a Jamaican musician/producer who came up with the idea of an old school album with a modern twist.

This Vintage Collection album was released on February 6th. It features JonFX singing rocksteady, ska and reggae songs that he wrote and played on most instruments.

It is a tribute to the pioneers of Jamaican music he admired as a child, including artists such as Desmond Dekker and Toots And The Maytals, as well as producers Arthur “Duke” Reed and Clement Dodd.

“I learned that that era was less intense because there were acoustic sounds everywhere,” said JonFX, who is one of the driving forces behind the South Florida music scene.

Songs like Train, Miracle and Rude to Your Parents are reminiscent of the classic 1960s era.

JonFX has compiled charts with artists from various genres. He has produced the reggae jam Gyptian, Hold Yuh, Arms Around You by rapper Xxxtentacion, and the Another Level remix by Guyanese gospel singer Renwick Dewsbury.

Vintage Collection is the follow-up to Retro Dancehall, JonFX’s previous album released in 2022.

Despite being only 39 years old, the Kingston multi-instrumentalist played with reggae legends including Glen Adams, respected organist of The Upsetters, Lee “Scratch” Perry’s studio band in the early 1970s.

He also recorded for producers Everton “Caveman” Moore, Hyman “Ja Life” Wright and Keeling Beckford.
