John Jay HS Launches STEAM Festival

There was everything from homemade hovercraft rides, classes to learn how to program and control robots, and even design and launch rockets.

SAN ANTONIO — To involve children in the community and get them interested in STEM was the goal of the festival, organized by students of John Jay High School.

The John Jay Academy of Science and Engineering hosted a Steam Fest on Saturday.

There was everything from homemade hovercraft rides, classes to learn how to program and control robots, and even design and launch rockets.

More than 50 events were organized for children from kindergarten to 8th grade.

“I think they’ll be like, ‘Well, science, math, technology and just everything in general is a lot more interesting and not boring, like writing problems and doing little things. It’s actually a lot of fun,” said Kira Ocampo, John Jay Academy of Science and Engineering.

Some of the topics included physics, astronomy, robotics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and fine arts.

The event has been held at the school for the third year.
