Joe Manchin responds to rumors about his plans for 2024

Senator Joe Manchin (DW.Va.) commented on rumors about his plans for the 2024 election.

Punchbowl News reporter Andrew Desiderio released details of a conversation between Manchin and radio host Hoppy Kercheval.

When asked if he was going to run again in 2024, Manchin replied, “I don’t know.”

Then he asked, “No one fights for the middle—so where is the best place for me to fight for the middle?”

When it comes to running for the White House, Manchin told Kercheval that he is not a candidate as they are “sitting here today.”

Although Manchin said he would not run “today”, he explained that this could change “in two years, in a year and a half”.

Manchin suggested, “You don’t know who the Democratic and Republican nominees will be,” adding, “My goal is to unite the country.”

Politico reported last week that Gov. Jim Justice (RW, Virginia) appears to be the candidate with the best chance of defeating Manchin if he runs again.

Should Manchin run again?

A poll by the Tarrance Group states: “Data from this study shows that, by every metric, Gov. Jim Justice is by far the strongest Republican nominee in the U.S. Senate in West Virginia and the only verified potential nominee currently led by Joe Manchin. for a trial vote.

Politico noted that Justice was undecided on whether he would enter the race but said he was “leaning” towards it.

During a Q&A session hosted by Semafor’s Steve Clemons earlier this month, Manchin stressed the importance of bringing the nation together.

“I can tell you one thing: I feel, like most Americans, that we should unite. Americans want to be united, they want to be together, and right now we are moving further apart,” he said.

Manchin added: “I was [in Washington] 12 years old. I don’t like what I see; I’m not in the direction we’re going and I’m going to work and make a commitment to try to get people who want to do the right thing to find a way forward by uniting the country.”
