Jimmy & Stevie Ray Vaughn: The Blues Brothers will debut later this month.

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) – A new documentary, set to premiere later this month, promises to look into the lives of two Texas blues legends who were born and raised in Oak Cliff.

Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughn: The Blues Brothers, directed and produced by Kirby Warnock, will debut at the historic Texas Theater in Oak Cliff on Thursday, March 23rd.

Warnock said he had been working on this film for about five years.

“You will see films and photographs you have never seen before and hear stories you have never heard before. I’m trying to bring something new,” he said.

The film focuses on anecdotes told by other musical heavyweights who have known the Vaughan brothers since their early days.

Jimmy Vaughan himself was interviewed for the film along with Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Jackson Browne and Nile Rodgers.

Warnock said it was important to tell never-heard stories through the brothers’ closest friends and fellow musicians.

He added that this is also the first time that Jimmy Vaughn and Eric Clapton have spoken publicly about the night Stevie died in a helicopter crash in 1990.

Warnock said: “I said, ‘You were there the night Stevie had a tragic accident. Can you just walk me through this? What’s happened?” This is what I asked [Clapton] and Jimmy, and they were both very emotional about it.”

“I wanted to hear from these guys and say that this is what we saw and talk about it in that way. I wanted the information from the original source not to be heard, and that’s what this film is about,” added Warnock.

Warnock is a historian by profession and a fan of the Vaughan brothers by fate. He says he has been fascinated by their musical abilities and their storied history for over 45 years.

When asked what fans can expect from the documentary, he said, “I hope they learn something they never knew before, because I certainly did when we interviewed.” [Clapton, Gibbons, Brown, and Rodgers] … I was asking them a question and they were saying something to me that I hadn’t heard before and I was like, “Oh my God, this is incredible.”
