Jewish Activists Summons New Miss Texas USA for Allegedly Anti-Semitic Comments

After the new Miss Texas USA was crowned this weekend, the controversial anti-Semitic comments she allegedly made are resurfacing online. Some activists are now wondering why more has not been done to address this issue.

On Friday, Miss Texas USA announced runner-up Ellie Drake as the new 2022 titleholder. This comes after the previous winner, R’Bonnie Gabrielle, was crowned Miss Universe in January, leaving that position open. Officials say the first runner-up withdrew, putting Ellie on the waiting list.

Her coronation soon came under fire when Lizzie Sovetsky, an internet blogger and Jewish activist, shared a video denouncing a comment Ellie allegedly made last July.

One of the contestants shared a comment on Instagram and said: “@alliejdrake gives me the best compliments. “You look like Anne Frank, a Holocaust survivor,” Lmaooo. I’m proud of you.

Sovetsky called the comment an irresponsible use of a public platform.

“As a former beauty pageant contestant, I placed third in the Miss Texas Teen pageant in 2002, and I know this title comes with a lot of responsibility. When you enter a competition and win a crown, you become a role model. Young girls look up to you. You have to be so careful and prudent with the messages you post there, and whether you like it or not, you have a profound effect on impressionable minds,” Sovetsky said.

“It was a highly irresponsible use of the podium by someone who proudly smiles and wears a crown, not to mention that much of what she said was not only hateful and ignorant, but simply not true,” continued Soviet.

The newly crowned Miss Texas made history as the first Asian American to win the title.

Miss Texas USA said in a statement: “Miss Texas USA and Miss Universe are aware of an anti-Semitic comment posted on social media in July 2022 claiming to have been made by Allison Drake. According to the affidavit, this comment was not made by our current Miss Texas USA, Allison Drake. The Miss Texas USA Organization denounces and denounces anti-Semitism, racism, bigotry and all forms of discrimination.”

Sovetsky said that whether or not Ellie actually made the comments, she believes the Miss Texas USA organization may have used the incident as a teaching moment.
