Jesús Ferreira Finishes 2022 with FC Dallas All-Time Single Season Scoring Record

FRISCO, Texas – It’s almost like Jesús Ferreira was born to break FC Dallas records. He’s been doing it since he was a kid.

Ferreira’s journey to the FC Dallas first team is well known by now. He joined the club’s youth ranks as an 8-year-old when his father, David, signed for Dallas in 2009. After a trophy-laden career in the FCD Academy, Ferreira earned a pro contract in 2016 before becoming the youngest player to score a goal in FCD history the following year—aged just 16 years and 161 days. That was just the beginning.

The 2019 season saw Ferreira come into his own. Incoming head coach Luchi Gonzalez, who was formerly the club’s Academy director, put his faith in his former pupil and made the now 18-year-old Ferreira his starting striker. Ferreira repaid the trust and finished as FC Dallas’ top scorer with eight goals. Another record. Ferreira was now the club’s youngest-ever top scorer in a single season.

Three years later, Ferreira is enjoying a historic campaign as the club’s first Homegrown Designated Player. With 10 goals over the first four months of the season, the 21-year-old was named to his first MLS All-Star game just 12 years after his father earned the same honor. In doing so, they became the first father-son All-Star duo in MLS history.

And now, another record. Jesús Ferreira equaled FC Dallas’ all-time single season scoring record of 18 goals, tying club legends Jason Kreis and Kenny Cooper who achieved 18 in 1999 and 2008 respectively. While it’s yet another record, it might be Ferreira’s best record yet. It’s a milestone that shows he’s become one of the elite players in this club’s history, as well as one of the elite players in this league.

“I couldn’t be happier. I’ve worked with Jesús with the Under-23 national team and you can count me as a huge fan of his,” said Kreis, who played for Dallas from 1996 to 2004 and remains the club’s all-time leading scorer with 91 goals. “I’ve worked with few players that can finish better than Jesús does. He doesn’t need more than half a chance to score a goal. He has a tremendously bright future. I couldn’t be happier that he’s the person that broke that record.”

“I’m proud of him, I’m really proud of him,” said Cooper, who played alongside Jesús’ father during his five seasons with FC Dallas and now serves as a club ambassador. “For him to excel the way he has and to score the amount of goals that he has, it’s been absolutely amazing. It just makes you excited for the years to come and what lies ahead of him.”

“I’m just happy and grateful that I can be another player in the history books,” Ferreira said. “I’ve always said that I want to make my own history at the club, my dad made history here and now it’s my turn. This is the team that I grew up watching, I grew up playing for. To be in the history books as the all-time scorer for the season, it means a lot. I honestly love the club. I want to be part of its history.”
