Jeff Bezos may sell Washington Post to buy Washington Commanders: report

According to a New York Post report, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and owner of the Washington Post, may sell the newspaper and buy Washington Commanders.

Last November, the team announced the surprise decision of owner Dan Snyder and his wife to hire Bank of America Securities to “consider potential deals.”

The news comes amid growing pressure and numerous ongoing investigations involving the team.

Several people, including Bezos, have been linked to the team’s potential purchase. The Front Office Sports report cites Todd Boly, co-owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers and Sparks, as a stakeholder. Also named were Clearlake Capital co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, as well as John Henry, principal owner of Fenway Sports Group.

The Commanders are valued at $5.6 billion, seven times the then-record $800 million Snyder paid for the team in 1999, according to Forbes. The FOS report says that none of the first applications exceeded $6.3 billion.

According to the Post, one of the concerns for Bezos is that Snyder may still harbor a grudge against him following newspaper reports of a franchise-related toxic workplace culture.
