Investigation underway into fatal shooting in Trenton

On June 13, 2024, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, in collaboration with the Trenton Police Department, commenced an investigation into a shooting incident that transpired the previous evening in the city of Trenton. Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri confirmed the report and highlighted the gravity of the situation.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on June 11, 2024, Trenton patrol units swiftly responded to the area of Stuyvesant Avenue and Hoffman Avenue following a shot spotter activation. Upon arrival, officers were informed that two individuals with gunshot wounds had been transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, one of the victims, identified as Jonathan Applegate from Trenton, succumbed to his injuries after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
