Indiana State Police Trooper Dies After Suspect Runs Him Down During Interstate Highway Pursuit

An Indiana State Police Trooper has died after being run over by a suspect who was being chased by police on the Interstate.

Indiana State Police Public Affairs Officer Brian Walker said during Friday night’s press conference that senior soldier James Bailey, 50, was hit by a suspect’s car around 4:30 p.m. on Interstate 69, south of Auburn, Indiana.

Walker said Bailey was assisting other service members with traffic in weather-related accidents when he became aware of a police pursuit coming in his direction, adding that he attempted to reduce the escalation of the pursuit by lowering the stop sticks.

As he lowered his brake lights, Bailey was hit by a suspicious vehicle and seriously injured.
